Constellations Report

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The Constellations report will not be generated until there are at least 14 responses to the protocol. To view the Constellations report, click on the Constellations link in the Report table.

The Constellations table includes indices that provide an early warning about the possibility of major problems. There are seven indices, the Perceptual-thinking index (PTI), the Depression Index (DEPI), the Coping Deficit Index (CDI), the Suicide Constellation (S-CON), the Hypervigilance Index (HVI), the Obsessive Style Index (OBS), and the Schizophrenic Index (SCZI).

Note that the SCZI constellation has been removed from the latest edition of the Comprehensive System due to some methodological issues. However, RAP3 kept the SCZI Index since it has proven a valuable indication for psychotic symptoms. Users should exercise extra caution using this index and should read more about the reasons for taking it out from the last edition of the Comprehensive System.

Although all other six indices are based on empirical studies, none of them are impeccable, and the interpretation of the test results should not assume that any of these issues can be ruled simply by reviewing these indices.

The top Constellations Index Summary table shows whether the protocol met any of the first six constellation indices cutoffs. Next, the variables included for each of the seven Constellations are shown, with boxes checked for each positive item. The total number of positive items is entered at the bottom of the PTI, DEPI, CDI, S-CON, and SCZI areas. Notations of Yes or No are entered for HVI and the OBS.

Please note that for protocols of people younger than 14 years old there are age-adjusted cutoff values for WSum6, 3r+(2)/R, and Afr. Each is noted with an * on the constellations report. The cutoff values that have been applied for each younger age group can be found in Exner, (2001) A Rorschach Workbook. p. 100.
